A variety of diagrams, including network diagrams, can be made using the flexible and user-friendly diagramming tool Draw.io. It is used by users of all levels of competence due to its wide feature set and simple UI. Users may quickly add and arrange shapes and additional elements on the canvas using the application's drag-and-drop capability, which simplifies the diagram creation process.


Draw.io's huge collection of shape libraries is one of its greatest features. These libraries offer a vast selection of already prepared shapes and symbols created especially for network designs. In addition to icons that represent different types of connections and communication medium, users can find a variety of network components, including servers, routers, switches, and other similar items. Users can properly represent their network topology and architecture according to this huge collection.

  • Steps in creating network diagrams using draw.io

  1. Access Draw.io and create a new document.
  2. Add and configure network devices and connections.
  3. Customise and label the diagram.

Step 1:
  • Open your web browser and go to the Draw.io website (https://draw.io).
  • Click on "Create New Diagram" and select "Blank Diagram" or choose a network diagram template.

        Step 2:
  • On the left sidebar, click on "More Shapes" and select "Network" or "IT Infrastructure" from the list.
  • Expand the shape library and drag and drop network device shapes onto the canvas.
  • Use the connector tool from the toolbar to create connections between devices by clicking and dragging from one device to another.

        Step 3:
  • Select a device and use the formatting options in the toolbar to customise its appearance, such as changing the fill colour, line style, or size.
  • Add text labels to devices, connections, and interfaces by selecting the "Text" tool and clicking on the desired location.
  • Utilise additional features, such as text formatting, grouping elements, or inserting images, to enhance the diagram's visual representation.
